Krug Youth Center, Kurdjali (Bulgaria)

The Krug Youth Center is a non-profit art organization, run by a group of young people from the town of Kurdjali (Bulgaria) with young artists from Sofia, working in the field of art on both professional and voluntary level. Krug's aim is to bring young artists and poets together, to improve international relations between youngsters and to teach them how to explore and understand each other's cultures. Since 1998 we have worked together with Dutch, Macedonian, Japanese, Swiss, Italian, German, Czech, Greek, and Turkish organizations and individual young artists.

A part of our activities is based on a contract for cooperation between Municipality Kurdjali and Krug Youth Center in the sphere of culture and art, which came into force in January, 2002. The transformation of the City Artgallery, which by virtue of this contract we keep and own in the period of 2002-2007, into an Art Center for carrying out live art and seminars is the equivalent of the transformation of one still space into a forum for presentation of ideas in public, for partnership in the area of culture among partners from Balkan and European countries, for strong connection among the authors and their youngest successors.

Since the beginning of June 2004 Krug is working on a long-term project, called "European Cultural Youth House - Art Horizons", supported by the Swiss Cultural Programme Bulgaria Pro Helvetia/SDC". In addition to the project aims the local old school building in the village of Duzhdovnitsa, inhabited only by the Turkish minority, is transformed into a Youth House with arthostel in the East Rhodopes mountain. In September 2005 Krug and the ECYH will realize the First international plein-air "Arthorizons" with the participation of artists from Canada, the USA, Hungary and Belguim. The WORKSHOP "EUROPEAN DAYS OF STONE on Action 1 of Program "Youth" is expected to be a part of its preliminary program.
